As Close as it Came

I turned in circles around myself as the beasts began to wake.

My breath quickened and my body started to shake.

The fear inside of me was building strong,

For my enemies spoke clearly: Be gone. 

But I cannot leave, it'd do me no good.

I would turn around and walk away if I only could.

Past the growling wolves and behind the wall of gore.

Only there was my goal, what I came here for.

I took a step towards the glow that meant my prize was near.

Before I could even make it there the wolves dear back in a sneer.

You will never make it out alive, they would tease.

Yet not one tried to move towards me.

With quick movement I grew my wings

And the wolves jumped back in surprise like springs.

Turns out they weren't the only beasts in this place.

That's right, I grinned, I do have blood from more than one race.

With much haste I moved closer to my attackers with much power

All they could do then was sit and cower.

With the battle turned around I continued ahead.

When I was stopped dead in my tracks from a sharp pain in my head.

Nice try, laughed the alpha wolf who had jump up at the last second

I had left my guard down, and my death had be beckoned.

Warm blood rushed down my face until I was pale

Then I hit the ground like falling hail

Darkness creeped around me until it faded completely out

While I tried my best to erase all my doubt.

But I decided I might as well take a bow

Because what am I supposed to do now?
